Give Your Job Search an Extreme Makeover in 2012! - Work It Daily

Give Your Job Search an Extreme Makeover in 2012! - Work It Daily Be straightforward: How is that New Year's goals list working for you? Presently that it's (as of now) the finish of January, have you finished, or did the goals become a relic of days gone by? In the event that your new year's goals went the method of 2011, make another one for February and, on the off chance that you need motivation, don't hesitate to acquire one (or the entirety) of my Top Six Resolutions for the Motivated Job Seeker in 2012: I will make a technique for my pursuit of employment this year (and quit wasting my time). This system will incorporate the accompanying four things: a vocation target (making it simple for others to know precisely what work I need), a particular geographic locale (and, no, east coast doesn't cut it), an industry of decision, and the names of 30-40 organizations I intend to target. I guarantee to record these models on paper and offer them with my system, which will make it simpler for others to support me. I will jump on LinkedIn today (and study it like it's my activity). I know there are two sorts of employment searchers: the individuals who are not kidding about their pursuit of employment and the individuals who are definitely not. What's more, in case I'm not on LinkedIn, in any case, I'm in the last class. What's more, since there are huge amounts of assets out there to learn LinkedIn, I will begin by Googling LinkedIn for Job Seeker, and other related inquiries, until my profile is 100% finished. Dim ages, move over. I won't spend over 10% of my pursuit of employment time reacting to posted openings. Measurements show just 15% of occupations are ever posted, leaving 80% of employments not widely known or never posted. With the entirety of my (presently) available time, I will organize deliberately meet individuals at the correct level, in the correct organizations, at which to recruit me, in places like proficient affiliations, graduated class systems and through internet based life. I will search for data, not openings (since I know individuals who look for data find a new line of work a lot quicker than the individuals who are searching for occupations). By setting up casual conversations with chiefs as well as recruiting administrators, regardless of whether they are not employing, I will be the known competitor when there is an opening. Truth be told, this is the best an ideal opportunity to meet with recruiting supervisors, since they might be employing soon and, (in case I'm carrying out my responsibility effectively) I'll get a seat at the table! I will get bolster when I'm disheartened, and help when I need it. Imparting worries to confided in companions who can offer support, and tutors or profession specialists who can offer explicit counsel can just assist me with improving my self-assurance, haul me out of a groove, and help push me forward. I will give before I hope to get. I will vow to search for things I can do every day to get somebody out, for example, coaching an understudy, suggesting an associate or alluding an individual to a situation for which I am not a fit. I will do one thing every day to help the objectives of others, since I know liberal occupation searchers land quicker (and make more companions simultaneously). Here's to a beneficial and effective quest for new employment in 2012! Laura Labovich, organizer of Aspire! Knockout Questions How One Answer Can Tank Your Job Application

Knockout Questions How One Answer Can Tank Your Job Application Posted on September 25, 2017March 29, 2019 by Jon Shields While going after positions on the web, a large portion of us center around making an ideal resume and composing an introductory letter that will establish a connection. In any case, there is another guard remaining among you and a prospective employee meeting that is less lenient than both of those knockout inquiries. What are knockout inquiries? Knockout inquiries are normally posed to from the get-go in the employment form procedure to wipe out candidates who can't or reluctant to perform key occupation capacities, need required capabilities, or display other warnings. They are intended to continue recruiting administrators from burning through their time verifying and talking with candidates that are probably not going to be among their top applicants. Referred to once in a while as screening questions or pre-inquiries questions, knockout inquiries come in numerous organizations on the web: Short answer Indeed or no Size of 1 to 5 Select all that apply In the event that youre not getting reactions to your applications regardless of presenting a watchword improved resume, one potential clarification is that youre not making it past the knockout inquiries. Auto-dismissal The term knockout isn't a distortion. While a short answer question might be checked on by a real individual, anything with preset answers could bring about a mechanized rejection. Applicant following frameworks (ATS) permit employing directors to send any applications with a bombed reaction directly to the refuse. Understand more: What is a candidate following framework? For instance, the ATS JazzHR states on their site: Applicants who answer erroneously to your knockout inquiries will be hailed as having been auto-dismissed and be consequently dispositioned dependent on your determination. They won't appear in your new applicants and will go straight into a Not Hired mien. Here is what the settings resemble for recruiting directors: The auto-dismiss setting in Jazz HRs ATS. (JazzHR.com) Kinds of knockout inquiries Knockout inquiries can address concerns extending from basic coordinations to culture fit. Fundamental capacities, coordinations, and legitimate In the JazzHR model over, the knockout inquiry is Can you show up on Saturday or Sunday? Showing up on Saturday or Sunday is basic to the activity, so the recruiting administrator has no enthusiasm for meeting any individual who cant. As an occupation candidate, in the event that you truly like the organization and the activity yet cant show up on Saturday or Sunday, there isnt a decent method to get around this. Noting no will sink your application. Noting yes in dishonesty will cause issues down the road for you when the fact of the matter is revealed. On the off chance that you cannot carry out the responsibility depicted, youre likely happier reassessing and investing your time and energy into an alternate application. Other knockout inquiries in this classification: Is it true that you will travel/migrate/stay at work past 40 hours? What are your compensation prerequisites? Is it accurate to say that you are lawfully ready to work in the United States? Is it accurate to say that you will submit to a medication test? Capabilities A few candidates accept they can get around being under-qualified on the off chance that they can simply get to the meeting and account for themselves. To battle this, employing administrators utilize knockout inquiries to implement required capabilities recorded hands on portrayal. For instance, if the expected set of responsibilities requests a base 3 years experience as a visual fashioner, you may attempt some resume arranging dishonesty to cause your 2.5 long stretches of understanding to appear to be increasingly similar to 3. Its harder for candidates to obscure the lines with an unambiguous yes-or-no knockout inquiry: Do you have in any event 3 years experience as a visual architect? No. Different capabilities based knockout inquiries: Do you have X degree? Do you have X permit? Do you have X affirmation? Accomplish you have work involvement in X? What is your ability level with X on a size of 1-5? Culture Fit and Character Most knockout inquiries are straightforward and judge your qualification and capabilities. Instead of hang tight for a telephone or in-person meet, some hiring chiefs will utilize the application to sift through candidates dependent on culture fit, character qualities, or character. These kinds of inquiries include: Do you like to work alone or as a component of a group? Would you be able to amass in an uproarious domain? Depict your favored work style. How well do you adjust to change? What are you enthusiastic about? Educate me concerning a period you settled a contention with a collaborator. The most effective method to respond to knockout inquiries Be straightforward You may get somewhat further by lying on knockout inquiries, yet except if youre focused on life as a cheat, reality will in the end come out and put your endeavors to squander. The best methodology is to answer genuinely or not in the least. On the off chance that the main route forward is to answer insincerely on a knockout inquiry, consider cutting your misfortunes and proceeding onward to an alternate request for employment. In the event that youre resolved to apply in any case, answer honestly then discover the recruiting director and clarify why they should employ you regardless of your obvious exclusion. It may be the main way theyre mindful of your application in the event that it was auto-dismissed. Do your examination Theres more squirm stay with abstract culture fit and character questions. In the event that youre not certain what the correct answer is, research the organization to show signs of improvement thought of organization culture and what the employing supervisor may be searching for. Re-read the expected set of responsibilities cautiously. Use Glassdoor representative audits to get an inside glance at the organization. Extension out the foundation of workers in your planned division on LinkedIn. You should even now answer truly, yet accomplishing some analytical work can help tailor your reaction for the particular organization. Be genuine with yourself On the off chance that youre every now and again getting took out because of your capabilities, it may be the ideal opportunity for a rude awakening. Rather than searching for an occupation that is a stage up from your latest position, consider making a sidelong move or making a slight stride once again into a job with greater open door for development. Add free affirmations to reinforce your resume. Build up your abilities and reinforce your portfolio with humanitarian effort, outsourcing, and side hustles. They state work chasing is an all day work in and of itself. Dont let that time and exertion go to squander by overlooking key capabilities or passing over knockout inquiries that appear to be repetitive or less significant than your resume. How to Handle Multiple Job Offers as an Executive

How to Handle Multiple Job Offers as an Executive Its an executives dream come true! Youve got multiple job offers on the table with some really great companies! Theres only one problem. Now you have to actually choose which job to take. This can lead to a flurry of questions and self-doubt. Will I make the right decision? Should I just go for the highest salary? What if I make a mistake? Use our guide below to help you handle multiple job offers and how to choose the job thats best for you. Its not just about the money - but it is kind of important. If choosing an offer were only about the money, then the decision would be a no-brainer. The reality is that there is much more to consider than just money, however it is an important factor. Furthermore, if you break down the offers separately you may see that money is a lot more than just about your salary. One company may have a killer salary, but a horrible insurance policy (which is why they probably offer a killer salary). If insurance is important to you and your family, then this will influence your decision. Another example would be that perhaps a company has a higher match for the 401k at which point youd be walking away from free money if you turned them down. Other monetary considerations include relocation expenses, profit sharing and tuition reimbursement. Of course, it will be rare that any one company will have everything you are looking for so its important to note what matters most to you. Does the job excite you? Theres nothing worse than taking a job and then realizing a few months down the line that youre utterly bored, or worse, that it is the wrong job for you. Chances are that if youve made it this far in your career then you like to be challenged, learn new things and be engaged in what it is you do for a living. As such you should consider the job itself. Does it excite you? Is there an opportunity for personal and professional growth? Do you find yourself really engaged by the work and the company? Personal values are important too. Most people may not think about personal values when choosing a job, but the truth is that they matter just as much as everything else. For instance, if you consider yourself an environmentalist then working for an oil company may not be your best choice. The example may be trite but it paints a clear picture, if you go against your values for a paycheck youre not going to last very long. Or, if you do last a while youre going to be miserable. This is why its important to look into company culture. Another example would be if they expect their executives to work 80 hour weeks and thus take away time from their families. This may not seem like a big problem when youre staring at a salary offering with a lot of zeros, but it will eventually affect other parts of your life you find equally as important. As such its important not to get blinded by the numbers and take everything you find important into consideration. This is why its important to look into company culture. The research reveals that two thirds (64%) of 18-24 year olds and over half (56%) of 25-34 year olds now describe themselves as ‘yes’ men and women unwilling to offer a contradictory opinion. Older workers, on the other hand, are more likely to stand their ground in the workplace. Less than a quarter (24%) of over 55s describe themselves as ‘yes’ employees, and over two thirds of this age group (64%) would stand up to their boss by challenging them with their opinions and ideas. Commenting on the findings, LinkedIn’s Darain Faraz said, “The results from LinkedIn’s New Norms @Work study illustrate how professionals from across the UK are reshaping their professional brands both online and on the job. They’ve had to adapt to get ahead, whether it’s honing their professional identity online or making a bigger effort to stay on the right side of their boss. The findings also reveal that the way UK professionals perceive themselves and others in the workplace and online are changing, with appearances and first impressions mattering more than ever. Professionals aren’t just paying attention to their own image; nearly half (46%) of UK workers admit that they would judge a colleague based on their appearance, with younger generations being most judgemental. Women feel most under pressure to impress in the workplace, with more than a quarter (27%) feeling they are judged more on what they wear to work than men. Inspired by the rise of the ‘selfie’, a third (28%) of 18-24 year olds now think more carefully about their LinkedIn profile photo versus their image on other social networks, with a third of this age group admitting they judge others on the basis of this image. In a bid to make a good first impression only one in five (22%) 18-24 year olds and a quarter of 25-34 year olds would be honest about being fired from a job, compared with half of their older counterparts. Although most mature workers didn’t have tools like LinkedIn to kick-start their career, almost half (42%) of professionals say they’re actively impressed by the experience section on someone’s LinkedIn profile and a quarter (25%) get their first impressions from a profile photo. Personal Branding Weekly - Dazzling Conversation Starters - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Ever hit that moment of awkward silence? At an event and don’t know what to talk about? Does it seem like all you do is grip, grin and graze making chit chat that’s merely a conversation seeking a topic? Here’s an easy acronym to navigate you through a conversation. Ask questions following the pattern of this acronym surrounding each letter as a focus for the question:  FORMULA. F =  friends and family (i.e. Do you have any friends doing what you do?) O =  occupation and organizations (i.e. What do you do for a living?) R =  rest, relaxation and recreation (i.e. When you’re not working, what do you like to do?) M =  motivation (i.e. Why did you go into business?) U =  unique (i.e. What is it that makes you different from ABC company?) L =  loves (i.e. Golfers love the game. Collectors love their hobby. Ask about it and listen.) A =  associations (i.e. Are you member of the XYZ industry association? Where do you learn about all the latest industry news? Do you have a local chapter of XYZ?) 3 Rules To Make Your Resume Irresistible!

3 Rules To Make Your Resume Irresistible! Your resume is supposed to be the professional first impression.   And while in personal life, you get to move forward to make a second impression after a bad first one, professional lives aren’t the same.    Too many contenders and only a few fitting “dream jobs”. With such an imbalance in the world, you get only 7 seconds to trump your competitors.    For that, you only need three things: Great content (skills) Precision (exact information without rambling) Knowledge (Knowing about everything you have mentioned) Here’s how you can incorporate these elements in your resume for making a powerful first impression. Adding skills Degrees and diplomas are what make up every CV in the world. You can be sure that any person applying for a job same as you will have comparable, if not the same, qualifications. The only way to stand out of the crowd is to do something different. And here, it means to acquire skills that might help you in handling a broader aspect of your job. In short, make you better. Some of the highly-in-demand “extra” skills today are: Digital marketing: You might be associated with any department of a company; knowledge of digital marketing has become crucial. You either gain it over time with training and practice, or you come prepared. In today’s customer-centric market, having the skills to engage with customers, and overall business is like catnip to recruiters. Project management: Project management or even team management is no more the simple tasks of delegating work, taking reports and reporting back. It is much more complicated now with more sophisticated projects and remote work culture catching fire. Above everything, it requires a great deal of people skills. When a complicated project starts, it becomes difficult to gather its progress at once. And a project manager bridges that gap by making strategies and structure that makes working seamless and error-proof. Learning practical project management skills will give you an edge over other applicants. Not to mention, it will essentially light up the “leadership” part. Writing: Yes, content IS the king! Everything you read that catches your eye, motivates you to take action, inspires you, compels you to buy something, is a skill. A skill that is driving traffic, making sales and growing businesses. Knowing how to write formally can expand your horizons dramatically at a now job and earn you more opportunities. Web development: A website is essential for businesses. It gives a connection platform to every visitor and of course, for sales. Irrespective of whether your future employer is a B2B company or a B2C, developing, managing and maintaining a website will always be required. To obtain these skills, all you need is to find a reliable online course and learn at your comfort. In fact, with collaborative learning platforms like Huddleboard and plenty of eLearning courses, you can become proficient with any skill before your next interview. But merely mentioning an extra skill in your CV alone does not gain you brownie points from the selection panel. There is more. Keeping it precise Many a time, people get hopelessly muddled by their need to beautify their resume. They either end up making it graphically elaborate or simply pretentious.   However, using unnecessarily big words or turgid phrases to describe a simple thing never went down well in the history of writing. So for your CV to shine bright like a diamond in front of your interviewer, write things as precisely as possible.    It will not only keep your resume clean and crisp but also make you appear much more reliable, mature and honest. Having the right knowledge There is knowledge, and then there is the RIGHT knowledge.    There are millions of things that we might be aware of from our day-to-day lives, even know about them in detail, but not everything goes in the CV. The rule here is simple Do not put EVERYTHING you know in your CV. Know about EVERYTHING that you put in your CV. Remember, your resume is the one document you are giving your employer consensually for them to make a judgement about you. And unless your job is for a badminton coach, your knowledge about international badminton does not count. At the same time, the one time that one essay writing competition in school does not make you a writer. Lastly, Many people might apply for the same job as you do, what makes you different from them is the only thing you should think about. All the best!

Technology That Can Help You Save Money

Technology That Can Help You Save Money Everyone is concerned with the rising cost of personal energy use and on a global level, everyone should be helping to reduce the national carbon footprint. We have gathered some tips about the technology that is available to help you save money on your utility bills in the UK, or almost anywhere. Smart Meters The UK government plans to have gas and electricity smart meters installed in every home and work place at the end of 2020. The smart meter and the accompanying in-home display devices allow you to keep track of how and when you are consuming energy. The in-home display gives you real time and up-to-date information on when you consumed electricity and gas, how many units you consumed, and what is the specific cost in pounds and pence. You can also compare your current consumption with your past consumption. How can this technology save you money? If you have information on how and when you are using energy, you can isolate the specific appliances that are drawing the most energy and start to think about the ways you can reduce that amount. Change Your Shower Head If your shower draws hot water directly from the boiler or tank, consider installing a water efficient shower head. You get the same shower strength, but reduce the amount of water you use and the cost of heating the water. A water efficient shower head can save a family of four £80 annually on gas to heat the water and an additional annual £120 on the water bill, providing a water meter is in place. Dim It Or Switch It Off Tablets and computers have a bright-lit screen. Adjust the brightness down during the day time and save energy. Another plus is that your battery will last longer. Although standby modes on computers and TVs are convenient, you can save more money by turning the device off. A timer plug can turn the power off to a device for a specific period of time ranging from 15 minutes to 8 hours. Some standby savers are designed to be used with computers and will switch off up to 6 devices at the same time the computer is turned off. Here’s another hint â€" laptops use 85% less energy than desktop computers. Check Your Energy Use On the Go The new smart thermostats can connect to your smart phone. You can remotely adjust the temperature of your home. The smart thermostat also learns your habits and will make its own adjustments. If your gas and electricity is supplied by First Utility, get a  First Utility App. The app allows you to check your energy usage whilst on the go and make comparisons with your history of energy use. Other advantages of the app are a virtual assistant to check your account and provide advice. Replace Your Light Bulbs Exchange your traditional light bulbs with the new energy-saving bulbs. By replacing only 10 light bulbs with energy efficient one, you can save an estimated £70 a year. LEDs and CFLs may cost a little more up front, but they have much longer lifetimes. You can also realize savings by simply turning the light out when you leave the room. Image Source; Image Source; Image Source; Image Source

What Are You Looking For In Your Career - Hire Imaging

What Are You Looking For In Your Career - Hire Imaging How do you find what you’re looking for? Knowing what you’re looking for in a job makes it much easier to find what you want and where that is. You deserve to devote the first part of your job search to clarifying focus on jobs that you can get excited about â€" those that you find enjoyable, challenging and interesting. So, what are you looking for, anyway? What’s your “dream” job? Not all are fortunate to know this without some roll-up-the-sleeves work. Sometimes it’s greener-grass syndrome. Some jobs don’t even exist anymore. There’s not much call for a telephone operator or a bowling pin setter these days. Even if the job does exist, is it within the scope of your talents or capabilities? If you want to be a first-time-ballerina at age 45 or a 150-pound professional football player, you may want to rethink your options. If your dream job is real and you are qualified to fill it, there may still be potential barriers â€" those that require major changes in your life. If you are used to $90,000 a year covering your expenses, can you afford to take a job that pays $40,000? If you have elderly parents you’re caring for, can you take a job that requires you to be an air warrior with 75% travel? My point is that the goals you set for yourself in your job search need to hit a useful balance between what you would ideally like to have and what you have a reasonable chance of being hired for, given the big picture. This is important. You are probably not going to complete this process in a few hours or even a few days. Finding a balance between what you would truly love to do and what you must do to earn a living is a lifetime challenge. I’ve also found with clients (and myself), that priorities shift over time. What you want in your twenties probably won’t be the same in your fifties. Don’t be afraid to reach high, particularly early in your job search. You can always adjust as you continue your exploration. Remember too, that the more excited you are about the job targets you set, the more enthusiasm and energy you’re going to pour into your search. It’s a contagious domino effect. How do you find what you’re looking for? Remember when you were a kid, folks asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” As an adult, the question becomes, “What exactly do you want your day-to-day job experience to be like?” So, if you could choose your ideal job, what would you actually be doing on a day-to-day basis and under what conditions would you be doing it? Ignore for now, your qualifications or any potential barriers. Would you be working in a small, mid-size or large company? As an entrepreneur? Working as part of team? Doing something noble with the environment, people, animals or a cause? Making big money and as quickly as possible? Try the following exercise to get you started on exploring what you’d like to be doing in your next job. 1. Inventory Activities Write down as many activities as you can think of (job-related and otherwise) that you have actually engaged in over the past few years â€" even the last 20 or more. Try to be as specific as possible. Write down the specific tasks you had to perform. Instead of writing “Assistant Store Manager,” break it down. Recruited, hired and supervised new retail associates. Led virtual and in-class training classes. Set and managed department budgets. Mentored staff in merchandising and product trends. For now, don’t worry about whether you liked the activity. You can make that judgment later. And if you’ve had limited professional experience â€" returning parent to the workforce or new graduate, for example â€" write down volunteer or leisure experiences. Raised $8,000 for fundraising efforts via silent auction. Managed youth hockey team events and practices. Provided companionship to assisted living residents. Collected and restored antique cars. Write down as many of these tasks as you can think of, from as far back as possible forward. The more activities in which you have first-hand experience, the better this exercise works. 2. Assess your likes and dislikes. When you have your activities listed, give each item on the list a satisfaction rating. Don’t overthink it â€" this is not the time for analysis paralysis. Simply ask yourself the following question: “How much personal satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) did this activity bring me?” Use a scale of -10 to +10. If you enjoyed the activity very much, give it a 9 or 10. If you hated it, it might rate a -9 or -10. 3. Dissect your list. This step is a bit tougher, but important. Now isolate those activities that come out of the high side of the satisfaction scale (7 or above), as well as those that come out on the high end of the dissatisfaction scale (-7 to -10). Transfer the items in each category onto a separate page if you like. After you’re done, think about each item and ask yourself, “What about this activity did I enjoy or dislike?” 4. Look for patterns. This one’s even tougher, but essential. Review and analyze your answers to the preceding questions. Try to unearth particular patterns and common denominators. For example, if you find that people connection was a common thread in the activities that brought you enjoyment, you probably won’t be happy in an isolated cubby hole diagramming a better appliance, with minimal human contact. If a pattern shows helping people, your inclinations are obviously service-oriented. Dig deeper. Narrow the “people” pattern down. Do you like working with people? Training them? Mentoring them? And continue deep diving. Do the activities you find satisfying (or vice versa) require problem-solving skills? Creativity? Skilled communication? Crisis management? Linear logic? Strategy? Tactical execution? Is there a collaborative or competitive nature to the tasks? This is important. Do not judge yourself here. Do not think in terms of whether you should or shouldn’t find an activity satisfying. That’s not the gist. You are looking for some insight. Period. You are looking for affirmation of what you may already know, but have never taken time to think about. If you list enough activities â€" 35 is not excessive to work with â€" you should be able to find some patterns. Please, please do not rush this step. The more insights you gain from this stage of job targeting, the easier it will be for you to move on to further exploration that yields some ah-hahs. In my next post, I’ll give you some ways to move into exploring what you’re good at; and then into narrowing your focus. Till then, list, inventory and analyze away!
